HN01 Lucine

To the moon

Thinner, lighter, further nuanced.

The next chapter in Havid Nagan’s model line - HN01 Lucine.

“It is with great pleasure I introduce to the world my second creation, HN01 Lucine. Preliminary drawings began for Lucine initially 2 years ago when I was planning the transition from the design language of HN00 to HN01. While today the moonphase is more of a romantic curiosity, it’s importance is monumental in the history of telling time, especially in antiquity and even serving as the fundamental basis for time-telling and our modern-day calendar. The watch’s raison d’etre is to serve as a physical ode to this significance and history, while simultaneously advancing the brand’s technical and aesthetical presence.”

The watch features an off-centered hours and minutes display for time accompanied by the unique and proprietary, both in terms of aesthetic and technicality, execution of a ‘mystery moonphase’. The photorealistic depiction of the moon is a composite of multiple layered images in varied lighting that reveal mineral deposits on the face of our moon. In terms of the case, while the majority of the design remains unchanged, a significant (~1.5mm) reduction in overall thickness to the watch was achieved while adding more polished flanks, adding a complication, and centralizing the rotor! The curvature of the Havid Nagan caseback remains consistent with that of the -00.

The movement, a result of collaboration with one of the industry’s greatest technical masters, Jean-Francois Mojon, is displayed as a backdrop against the sandblasted grainée dial with nickel-anthractite treatment and perlage decoration. Of particular note is the moonphase display itself. Typically, moonphase discs incorporate a metal arm running vertically from moon-to-moon that assist in the function of the disc. This is normally hidden as most moon displays are set against a blue background depicting the night sky. In the case of Lucine, the disc was made of transparent sapphire; suffice to say, metal running from moon-to-moon would be an eye sore! I am glad to say we were able to achieve the function of the display without the unsightly arms, making for an unobstructed view of the Havid Nagan moon, which if one may imagine, is set against the clouds of perlage!

While on the rear of the watch, the wearer may view the skeletonized NAC-treated bridges with hand-applied anglage and a skeletonized and beveled central rotor, all making for an exceptionally light and comfortable watch on the wrist. The complexity of the evolution in movement finish and architecture may also be seen.
